Macon, Georgia Roadtrip

Last Friday we went to Macon, Georgia where my husband was working. We took him to work & then checked in at our hotel, which was the Quality Inn on Chambers Road. It looks like the public areas have been updated & everything was very clean, but the room itself had seen better days. The furniture was worn & chipped, & the chair had a small rip in the fabric.

The room did have WiFi so I checked my messages on my laptop & then after I was done we went swimming in the pool. It was an extremely hot day with a heat index of 106 & it looked like bugs had come looking for a place to cool off as well. The pool apparently did not have a good filtration system & dead bugs floated on the surface of the water. Most of the bugs were from the beetle family, which I am not squeamish about, so we went in anyway & would push them away if they floated towards us. This has happened in several hotels that we have stayed at that have an outside pool, so I don't know if it is something that is easily cleaned.

After the pool we came back to the room, took our baths & then I talked to my mom & sister on Skype. If you have family far away you must get Skype. It is free to join & if you call other people who are also members & they are in your contacts, it is free to call anywhere in the world 24/7! In case you do not know, Skype allows you to call via video on your computer so you actually get to see the people you are talking to...it is awesome! Later that night I tried to get internet connection again but it would not let me get on. I also tried again Saturday morning before we checked out but it would still not give me access. So all in all I would not recommend this hotel because of the condition of the rooms, the WiFi, & the breakfast was not very good.

Saturday Noah & I went shopping to buy my husband a Father's Day gift & then we went to see the movie "Up". This was a really cute movie! There were some parts that were slow & a little boring for kids but most of the movie has action & a plot that will keep them entertained.

If you are ever in Macon you need to visit their Science Museum. We did not go on this trip because we have been there several times in the past, but it is a great place to take kids. We have enjoyed it each time we have gone. I wish that we would have had more time there to check out new places but we were only there one night & then back home....maybe next time!

Free Movies

Tuesday & Thursdays at 10am are free movies at our local theatre, plus you get a free popcorn or drink for each can of food you bring in to feed the hungry. This past Tuesday we went to see "Igor"...couldn't remember the movie when it originally came out so we weren't sure what it was about.

Some of my friends met me there with their kids but I have to say that none of us were impressed with the movie. The kids didn't even like it, some of the younger ones never laughed at all because the humor was geared for adults. I hate when they do that! When will Hollywood get it that if the kids enjoy it, the parents enjoy it.

After the movie we went to Buffalo's Southwest Cafe for the kids eat free day, so the only thing we had to pay for was our adult lunch. They have several lunches for $6.00 & under so we all had a great day for little money.

So if you are looking for free & economical ways to entertain your kids this summer, check out your local movie theatre for free summer movies.

Free Summer Family Activities

If you are looking for free summer family activities check with your local movie theatre. Where I live they show free family movies every Tuesday & Thursday at 10:00am. Today we went to see "Nim's Island". We had never gone to see it when it first came out so it was a great opportunity to do so. I have to say the movie was much better than I had thought...better than the previews.

Also the theatre collects canned food for the needy & if you bring in 2 cans of food per person, you receive a free kids drink & popcorn. So free movie & free concessions in exchange for canned food, not a bad deal.

We went with several friends & after the movie we went to eat lunch at Buffalo's Southwest Cafe (which happens to be right in front of our movie theatre). On Tuesdays kids eat free...no matter how many adults! We had nine kids & 5 adults & all nine of them ate free plus they had a very economical lunch menu for us. The food was great & the service was awesome!!! So check in your area for free movies & kids eat free deals & have a great day with your family!!

Movies to See on Memorial Day Weekend

Well, our camping trip got rained out this weekend so we are staying home. I thought about doing school today but we were already in this vacation state of mind & just...skipped it. My husband had the day off so we met some of our friends & went to see Night at the Museum (Battle of the Smithsonian). We enjoyed it, like the first one, although I think the first one was better. There was one word that could have been left out & some "underworld" creatures, other than that I would recommend this as a good family movie.

So enjoy your weekend & remember the reason for the holiday which is to recognize our veterans & military. I will remember my dad who is no longer here. WWII veteran who was a POW in Germany & also wounded more than once in Korea. Thank all of you that serve our country!
